ABOUT
Hottest Take exists because most news and opinion writing plays it too safe. We say the quiet part out loud, and we don’t apologize for it.
What we do
We publish opinion and commentary on the stories other outlets are too careful to touch directly, politics, culture, media, tech, health, sports, and money. Every piece is an argument, not a press release. We do the reporting, cite our sources, and then tell you exactly what we think, instead of hiding behind a false sense of balance.
That doesn’t mean reckless. It means honest. We fact-check our claims, we correct our mistakes publicly, and we draw a hard line between a strong opinion and a cheap shot. You can read more about how we handle corrections on our Contact page.
Who’s behind it
Bryce Davis is the founder of Hottest Take, built on the idea that most news and opinion writing plays it too safe. He writes across politics, culture, tech, health, sports, media, and money, always willing to say what other outlets won’t.
What we cover
Seven sections, one voice:
Politics — the arguments nobody wants to have out loud.
Culture — what deserves your attention, and what doesn’t.
Tech — the products and platforms shaping how you live, examined honestly.
Health — where the science actually stops and the marketing starts.
Sports — the games, and everything around them worth arguing about.
Media — how the news gets made, and who it’s actually serving.
Money — the economy, explained without the spin.
The heat gauge
Almost every article on Hottest Take carries a live heat gauge, a running record of how readers are actually reacting, not just what we think. Vote Hot or Cold on any piece, and once it clears 10 votes, it gets rated on a five-tier scale:
🧊 Ice Cold (0–20% Hot) — readers pushed back hard.
🙂 Lukewarm (21–40% Hot) — a mixed reaction.
🔥 Hot (41–60% Hot) — a genuine split.
🔥🔥 Scorching (61–80% Hot) — most readers are with us.
🌋 Nuclear (81–100% Hot) — as close to consensus as this site gets.
Below 10 total votes, an article shows as Not Yet Rated rather than a potentially misleading result from a small sample. The gauge isn’t decoration. It’s the most honest metric on the page, because we don’t control it, you do.
